Budget-Friendly Fun for March Break: No Car Needed!

What to do in Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa for March Break 2023

March break is quickly approaching and that means you may have to get creative in terms of activities and entertainment – especially if you’ve got kids at home. There are lots of things to do that are affordable, and they’re just a bus ride away. Spending some quality time with the family sounds nice on paper, but without some planning, it might feel a little chaotic. Whether you’re planning to have some fun with the entire family, with friends, or go on an adventure by yourself, we’ve got you covered. We listed a few ideas that you can do around Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa.

Traveling by bus with kids

Taking the bus with the family can be a really fun activity, and is a great way to spend time with the kids instead of watching the road to focus on driving. Pack some snacks and bring along books or games to keep everyone entertained. Bus trips can be a great way to explore different places and have an adventure that doesn’t break the bank.

Indoor Activities

Don’t let the cold weather keep you from having fun. There are lots of things to do inside and around Montreal – take a trip to Insectarium, visit any one of the city’s many museums or art galleries, or just head to the mall for a day of shopping. There might still be snow on the ground, but there’s no reason not to pack up the swimsuits! There are tons of indoors pools in the city, so why not spend the afternoon swimming?

If you live close to Toronto, then you’re a bus ride away from having a great time at a bowling alley! The shoes, the snacks, it’s an activity that’s perfect for family time, or with to get competitive with friends. If you decided to leave the car at home, the Ballroom Bowl is only a 20 minute walk from Union Station!

Looking for a thrill? Indoor rock climbing is a great idea to do with family or friends! If you take the bus to St.Laurent station in Ottawa, you’ll be a 5 minute bus ride away from a place called Coyote Rock Gym! The location is 17 000 square feet with five bouldering areas, and programs for kids and adults, so there is something for everyone. Ottawa also has tons of museums, such as the Science and Technology Museum or the Canada Aviation and Space Museum.

Outdoor Activities

Whether you’re living in Montreal, Toronto or Ottawa, there are tons of activities to do during March break.

Montreal

If you’re visiting Montreal, then Parc Jean Drapeau has all kinds of activities such as outdoor ice skating path, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. If you are taking the bus, then the parc is about a 10 minute metro ride away from the Gare d’autocars. There are also a ton of other activities to do around the city

Toronto

If you’re looking for a bit of an adrenaline rush, why not try Edgewalk? It’s Toronto’s tallest attraction where visitors can take a walk outside around the circumference of the roof! Take a bus to Toronto’s Union Bus Station and it’s only a 10 minute walk away. Another great outdoor activity is to go see the St.Patrick’s Day Parade with the kids.

Ottawa

It’s the perfect time of year to visit a sugar shack! Definitely a true Canadian experience, March break is a great time to take the kids, family, or friends and enjoy a full day of delicious eats, visiting some animal friends, and enjoying some snow filled activities.

Take time to reconnect

Whether you’re looking to spend quality time with family, friends, or take time for yourself, there are tons of activities to do. Taking the bus is a great way to save on travel, so you can spend the extra on something else like food or experiences. The most important thing is taking the time off to reconnect – whether that’s with yourself or with loved ones.

It’s time to make some memories and take advantage of the arrival of spring!
