[INFOGRAPHIC] The Bus Is Back! Why More Millennials Are Choosing Bus Travel

You might believe that traveling by air or rail is the go-to way for getting around. The plane and train seem to get all of the attention, glamorously posing in front of your eyes on TV screens and billboards in every city.

Meanwhile, the bus is working behind-the-scenes, kicking ass by improving its amenities and catering to a younger, more budget and environmentally-conscious crowd. With the rise of the car-less generation, the bus industry has never been healthier.

The bus is back, and here’s why.

Busbud.com makes it easy to find and book the perfect bus trip online. Busbud is the only worldwide bus travel booking website, offering more than one million departures each week across 1,500 operators worldwide.

  • I love these stats, and bussing (I'd estimate I've bussed over 7000 km across South America). But I'm wondering where you've seen this increase in Millennials travelling by bus? Perhaps your saying here "why Millennials SHOULD travel by bus?" Just wondering. In North America, the long haul bus is not really an option - more expensive than flying at times, and just as uncomfortable as flying.

    • What's up Joey!

      Thanks for the comment!

In regards to your question about millennials; according to a recent study by Lauren A. Fischer and Joseph P. Schwieterman from DePaul University, 73% of American city-to-city bus riders are in the 18-35 age group (millennials).

For long distance travels, it depends on the route. For example, a bus from Vancouver to Toronto can be anywhere from three to four times less expensive than a flight.

As for the comfort in North American buses, it's true that the amenities aren't as luxurious as in countries like Mexico, Brazil & Peru. However, there are some American operators such as Lux Bus America who are offering a premium riding experience to their customers.

Hope this answers your questions and concerns,

      Dorian
