Rapid City
Rapid City
How to get there
Sioux Falls’ bus terminal belongs to Jefferson Lines and is close to the airport (4110 Maple Street, STE 108). There is only one bus per day to Rapid City, which leaves at 12:30pm – perfect for enjoying the scenic ride! We decided to suggest a trip to Rapid City, as it leads close to the Badlands National Park and the Black Hills National Forest – which are both incredibly beautiful landmarks. That way, you can rent a car for a day and visit the parks or take a bus tour. Also, Rapid City has a rich cowboy and Native American heritage and is the gateway to Mount Rushmore!
1. Go for a stroll downtown
Rapid City has a nicely preserved downtown, which is rather small but has a slight Wild West flair to it, along with many nice restaurants and bars. Also, this city features the largest amount of presidential statues. Each former US president has a statue on one of the city’s crossings.
2. Take a tour of Mount Rushmore
Take one of the tours leaving Rapid City daily from 2255 Fort Hays Drive and touring Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills. Mount Rushmore Tours completes the trip in nine hours, and it includes two meals (which includes a cowboy breakfast!) and a music show. Another tour provider is Black Hills Open-Top-Tours, who start from 1033 Clear View Lane and will pick you up at your hotel. They offer authentic Sioux history tours with Lakota guides!
3. Visit the Badlands
Once there, you need to drive through the Badlands of South Dakota, one of the US’ most scenic landmarks. Also, stop off at Wall Drug – South Dakota’s famed Wild West drug store!
Sheridan
How to get there
Rapid City’s bus terminal belongs to the Milo Barber Transport CTR and can be found on 333 6th Street. One bus leaves Rapid City per day at 5:50pm and drives towards Sheridan for about five hours. Sheridan is considered among the best Western towns and the gate to the Bighorn National Forest, the cowboy city Cody, and Yellowstone. Check the following things off your bucket list:
1. Book a room at the Historic Sheridan Inn
You’ll arrive in Sheridan at around 10:35pm. So, how about you book a stay at the historic Sheridan Inn well in advance for the night? This inn has a Wild West flair and is going to prepare you for the incredible sightseeing you’ll enjoy the next day.
2. Walk along Main Street
Strolling through Sheridan’s historic main street and enjoying the view of the Big Horn Mountains is a must the next morning.
