You’ve been working hard since September—and Christmas probably had some obligations that got in the way of pure fun and relaxation—so once Spring Break hits, you need to plan a trip and take some time off (for your health)! But do yourself one better and forgo the cliché locations.
Here are four Spring Break locales that you may not have considered, but they’re sure to put the spring back in your step. It’s time to get excited to get on a bus—and not the one that’s going to school.
If you’re looking to take on as much outdoor adventure as you can before heading back to class, Huatulco is the destination for you. There are more activities than you could ever fit into a week, including diving and safari tours, and lots of hiking spots—popular local destinations include Magic Falls and Copalita Ecological Park & Ruins. When you’re ready to relax after all that adventure, Huatulco has several spas that offer yoga, hydrotherapy, and more.
How to get there: Bus from Puerto Escondido and Pinotepa Nacional.
March break in Buenos Aires means catching the last remnants of the Argentinean summer, and there’s plenty to do during this time. The colorful city is renowned for its nightlife and passionate dancing—now there’s something worth learning that you’re not getting from school. Argentina is also famous for its beef, and has lots of quality cuisine on offer—so be prepared to indulge in at least one high-quality meal at a steakhouse like Santos Manjares or Calden del Soho.
How to get there: Bus from São Paulo, Mendoza, and Córdoba.
Head to Austin for South by Southwest if you’re into music, film, or gaming—it may be pricy to get in, but if you’re a creative type it will be worth your while. There are plenty of panels to choose from on any of the industry tracks, and SxSW is a great chance to connect with other artists and share ideas about your passions. Austin is considered one of the most bike-friendly cities in America, so grab a rental and get in on the action.
How to get there: Bus from Dallas, Oklahoma City, and New Orleans.
If the beach isn’t your thing and you don’t care about hot weather, Spring Break can definitely be about hitting the slopes. Whistler has some of the best skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing spots in the world. When your ski day is done, there’s plenty to do in the quaint mountain village—this town was co-host of the 2010 Winter Olympics and knows how to party. There’s also a thriving local craft beer scene and plenty of vibrant nightlife options to choose from.
How to get there: Bus to Whistler from Vancouver and Kelowna.
Wherever you choose to spend your Spring Break, you’re sure to find something that caters to your interests in one of these four destinations. Have a memorable vacation before you return home to hit the books!
