5 Party Cities to Visit in 2016

Partying is about getting away from real life—so go big in 2016 in one of these party cities. With so much on offer, you can keep coming back for more, whether it’s the bar or the beach—or a bar at the beach!

Barcelona, Spain

If you’re looking for a hard partying city in Europe to keep you busy night and day, Barcelona is your best bet. From the beach to the bar, Spain’s second largest city is one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations for a reason—it’s a combination of culture, natural beauty, and nightlife. Locals party until the sun rises and Barcelona has plenty of nightlife options—from beach clubs to underground gems—to choose from.

When hitting the clubs, try La Macarena, a small but pumping hot spot that plays house and techno, or Moog, a major hit in both the local and international partying scenes. Partiers with stamina can spend the day on one of Barcelona’s many beaches—the closest to the city is Barceloneta, which is easily accessible by Metro or walking, and of course there are plenty of bars beachside.

How to get there: Bus to Barcelona from Madrid, Marseille, or Toulouse.

Berlin, Germany

If getting the party started at 2am—and not getting kicked out until 9am—sounds like your partying speed, Berlin is the city to embrace. Berlin is especially known for its techno scene— check out Watergate for some of the best DJ talent in the world. Or hit up the famous Berghain/Panorama Bar—which is located in a former power station.

How to get there: Bus to Berlin from Paris, Munich, or Lyon.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

If you’re looking for 24/7 party destination in the southern hemisphere, Rio boasts the perfect mix of nightlife, festivals, and beach life. The Brazilians have demonstrated many times over that they know how to throw a party—whether it’s Carnival (every February!) or Rock in Rio. Rio is an especially popular party destination for LGBT tourists—during Carnival the parties in the Ipanema district celebrate all orientations.

How to get there: Bus to Rio from São Paulo, or Belo Horizonte.

New Orleans, United States

It’s impossible to get a hotel less than a year in advance for Mardi Gras—not to mention it’s not budget-friendly—but don’t let that stop you from partying in New Orleans. The city is ready to party year-round. If you’re looking to avoid extreme heat, December or January is the best time to visit, but if you’re after hotel deals and can take the humidity, visit in summer or fall. Spend  a night of drinking, karaoke and gambling in the French Quarter, a street buzzing with the best that the New Orleans nightlife has to offer.

How to get there: Bus to New Orleans from Dallas, Atlanta, or Miami.

Montreal, Canada

If you’re seeking a lighter-paced nightlife, Montreal is known for its jazz clubs and great food. If you’re looking for great affordable eats in the city, visit Cafeden for authentic Vietnamese cuisine or GaNaDaRa, for their top-notch chili-sauced fried chicken. Popular jazz clubs include Modavie and Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill, but there are many more to choose from. Montreal also has a thriving craft beer scene—imbibe a brew or two (or more!) at the bustling Le Cheval Blanc or the more quaint Station Ho.st.

How to get there: Bus to Montreal from Toronto, Boston, Ottawa, and more.
