IRYO trains

As of November 2022, a new company will start to run trains in Spain. Iryo is the first Spanish private high-speed train company, which will start providing trips on a few of the most important routes in Spain. The route from Madrid to Valencia should start running in early 2023, so travelers will have yet another option to get around in Spain.

The train stations in Madrid

There are two main stations in Madrid: Puerta de Atocha and Chamartín.

Puerta de Atocha station: Atocha station is the starting point of the journey with AVE high-speed trains. Located in the city center and is easily accessible by public transportation. The station is large and modern, has plenty of amenities, and is a major hub for national and international train services. 

Chamartín station: is located in the north of Madrid and is a bit further from the city center. It is where the regular Renfe trains depart from, and it is smaller than Atocha but still offers a good selection of amenities, restaurants, bars and cafes.

Valencia has two main stations: Joaquín Sorolla andEstación del Norte.

Joaquín Sorolla station: is the Valencia stop for AVE high-speed trains. The station is just outside the city center, about a 15-minute walk from the historic center. The station is modern and offers plenty of amenities, including a café, a restaurant, and stores.

Estación del Norte: is the Valencia stop for regular Renfe trains. The station is located in the city center, about a 10-minute walk from the historic center. The station is smaller than Joaquín Sorolla but still offers a few amenities, including a café and a store. Plus, the station is famous for its beautiful architecture.
